Subject: Ultrasound Certification Date: Sun, 24 Jun 2001 09:33:48 EDT From: DoyleEW@aol.com To: del_Mcquigg@house.state.va.us Good Morning Ms. McQuigg: Judi Toth contacted me on Saturday, June 23 about the conversation you both had on Ultrasound Certification in Virginia. I am the Virginia State Representative for CHERUBS. I confess, I am not one of your voters, however, I am and always have been a very politically aware individual. I also admire the many in politics, like you, who advocate the best for their constituents. Our case, our daughter Cecilia, was the best case scenario even though she decided that heaven and wings were more to here liking. We were diagnosed at 22 weeks gestation. We were given options and we made our choices as parents. We have no regrets for the health care she received at the University of Virginia Children's Medical Center. I honestly think that we are further along in our grief and recovery than many out there because we were informed and given options and choices. I will give you one name that I believe could be helpful in this quest. Dr. Siva Thaigarajh, FACOG, is considered the "Ultrasound guru of the East Coast" and he is affiliated with Martha Jefferson Hospital and also practiced at the University of Virginia and is highly regarded. The Ultrasound Techs at both the University of Virginia and Martha Jefferson Hospitals are required to be Certified. In doctor's offices, we don't know. I never knew that one should ask if they were. I spoke to a Certified Ultrasound Tech last summer, who wants it to become law. I plan on researching as much as I can the opposition to this matter. Frankly, I am at a loss, because I have the advantage of living in Albemarle County and having two great medical facilities in my backyard. Here are some links that may help below. CHERUBS, The Association of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Research, Advocacy and Support. President, Dawn Torrence - her son, Shane was born in VA and transported to NC, undiagnosed? http://www.cherubs-cdh.org/ Petitioning for Better Medical Care http://www.cherubs-cdh.org/petitions/ What has started this "grass roots campaign." There were two ultrasounds done on this inspirational child, Shane, before he was born in VA and later transferred to North Carolina http://www.cherubs-cdh.org/petitions/shane.html And our Cecilia's story: http://hometown.aol.com//doyleew/myhomepage/index.html Please feel free to contact me, I would be very happy to help in anyway I can! I will gather everything I can to see what opposition is out there and send it to you.
