Cafepress, ideas for next year (mostly just me rambling!) I noticed that many of the items for sale say "Proud Parent of a Cherub". As the parent of a Cherub in Heaven, I feel a little weird having that printed on an item for myself. I hope that doesn't come across the wrong way. Yes, I am proud to be my son's mother, but to me that phrase implies the child is living. Maybe it's just me who feels that way though. I would love to have something very visible (like the license plate holder or maybe one of those magnet ribbons for cars) to help bring about awareness of CDH. It'd be great to have something which specifically says "CDH" (or even spells the whole thing out) and/or maybe has the web address. Just some of my thoughts! That is a very good question! So I decided to answer and post the answer to the lists. In the past we've sold t-shirts and cookbooks. You don't want to hear the stories of how much work this was for our volunteers! Back in 1995 we even MADE the t-shirts ourselves with an iron! Of course we only had a dozen members back then. : ) Then we grew, and grew and grew to over 1700 members now and it wasn't feasible to make these items ourselves or to invest in the supplies to make them or to invest in the items themselves from a 3rd party. I still have TONS of cooksbooks and t-shirts here that were ordered many years ago. Then Cafepress came along and they create each item as it's ordered by using graphics that I upload to their servers. You can order any product with almost any graphic. You can even order items based on the CHERUBS logo character that most closely resembles your own cherub. Then they pay CHERUBS the profit from making the items. Some items (like bumper stickers, etc) make us just 50 cents, some larger items (like the book) make us $10.00. But each order is pure profit for CHERUBS since we don't have to pay Cafepress anything more than a yearly ($50.00) fee for our shop. And it saves us a ton of time and space since CafePress deals with all the shipping, etc. We don't sell a lot but every little bit helps and getting the word out about CDH by wearing or using some of these products really helps too. In the future I'll be adding a ton more graphics and I encourage all our cherubs and siblings to submit drawings to put on items too! Or to dress up the kids like little angels for next years fundraisiers would be great also. And I'm hoping that next year we'll put together a CHERUBS Yearbook of all the photos submitted and that that will be annual thing. Family photos encouraged and families of non-survivors can hold up large photos of their cherubs within their photos. This way we can "watch" cherubs and families grow each year. Dawn T.
